Musée de l'histoire de l'immigration
The Musée de l'histoire de l'immigration is a cultural, scientific and educational institution dedicated to immigration history and cultures in France. Collections of the museum are made up of tangible and intangible works which cross historical, anthropological, and artistic views, in order to create a dialogue between objects, documents, testimonies, and contemporary creations.
At the heart of the permanent exhibition Repères, testimonies, archives documents, and art works meet along a path recalling key points of the history of France from the 19th century. Contiguous with the permanent exhibition, the Donations Gallery (Gallerie des dons) highlights familial history and brings the museum stories, pictures, and personal objects, representing migration paths. This integration to a national heritage contributes to recognizing the inputs of immigration to French society.
Museum also includes the Mediathèque Abdelmalek Sayad, the first multi-media library specialized in history, memory and cultures of French immigration from the 19th century to the present.
To associate a network of partners working on foreign and French immigration is one of the distinctive features of the museum. The network thus links associations cultural institutions, companies, searchers, teachers, local and regional authorities offering initiatives for civil society in order to change representations of immigration.
